| Pre Shot Routine By Rick Oelkers
Developing a pre-shot routine is one step to success. Doing it every time before a you make a shot will relax you and make you focus on the task at hand. Here is my pre-shot routine. I move to the back of the approach and wipe off the sole of my slide shoe and clean my ball with my towel. (Note I use 2 different towels.) Centered on the approach, I stand at the back of the approach close my eyes and take a deep breath and relax I will get a song in my head and use that to help relax. Then I look at he pins to see if they are all there and on spot. Pick up the ball, and place in my Non bowling hand with the fingerholes straight up and down Step upon the approach using my right foot I put the toe on my starting point. Left foot is slightly to the front of the right with the toe pointed to my target. Then I open the right foot up slightly to set my hips I set my head directly over my right foot Then I make sure all my weight is on my right foot. Bend my knees and set my butt as if I am leaning it on a bar stool.. Place my fingers in the ball to the first joint, Roll my thumb into the thumb hole Set the ball in the stance so it is even with my left knee and so I can look down on the ball and see the little toe side of my right shoe inside the ball. Then I can make my approach. It sounds like it is a lot to do but once you master the routine you develop for yourself, it takes only a matter of seconds to do. |
