Grip Evaluation By Rick Oelkers

How often should I get my grip checked is another question I receive frequently.

For children their grip should be evaluated every time they change shoe sizes. As their feet grow sho do their hands. Merely sanding out the finger holes to alow for the growth of the fingers, does not adjust for the growth in the length of the hand and fingers.

Too ofter I see children with out grown span and finger holes. This causes the child discomfort in the hand and fingers. This can cause a 6lb ball to feel like a 9 lb ball, because of the improper fit.

Adults should be evaluated at least annually. As we get older we lose flexibility in our joints, contract arthritis among other maladys. The pitch (angle) of the holes can be changed to acomodate changes in the flexability of the thumb and fingers.
